Association to discuss crime

The Garfield Neighborhood Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, East Market Street and Genesee, Warren.

Guest speakers are Mayor Doug Franklin, who will speak on efforts to combat crime in the city, demolition plans for blighted houses and other important topics, and Jeff Orr from the Trumbull-Ashtabula Group Task Force, with updates on TAG’s activities and the upcoming Anti-Drug Walk on July 27. The meeting is open to the public.

MARKET SET: The Howland Farmers Market will be held form 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the gazebo off East Market Street. The open-air market features farm fresh produce and specialty products, hand-crafted items by local artisans, and live music. It will be held rain or shine.

NAACP HOLDS MEETING: The Trumbull County NAACP will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road, Warren. For information email naacp_warren@ ymail.com or 330-469-3247.

CLUBS TO HOST FLY-IN: The Hubbard Wingsnappers Club for radio-controlled airplane enthusiasts will hold its annual Fly-In at 9 a.m. Sunday at the club field on Burrows Road / Township Road 326 in West Middlesex, Pa. There will be an RC plane raffle and a 50/50 raffle. No fees will be charged, but donations will be accepted.

MAKING PLUSHIES: The Cortland Library Branch, 578 Lakeview Drive, will hold Fabulous Felt Plushies from 2 to 4 p.m Saturday for children in grades 7 to 12. Registration is required by calling 330-638-6335.

MYCAP OFFERS COMPUTER CLASSES: Mahoning County residents who want to learn the basics of how to use a computer and the Internet can sign up for one of nine free Computer Literacy Classes scheduled in July at the Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP), 1325 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. The classes are free for adults 18 and older. Classes are offered July 16 to 31. To register, call Kim at the MYCAP office at 330-747-7921, Ext. 1190.

POTTERY DISPLAYED: A collection of Czechoslovakian pottery and china is on display at the Sutliff Museum for July and August at the Sutliff Museum, second floor of the Warren-Trumbull County Library. Collectible Czech pottery most often dates from the 1920s although one factory producing it existed through the Nazi occupation and was still working in 1945. CLEANUP SET: The Vienna Historical Society will hold a cemetery restoration and preservation day from 9 a.m. to noon at the Doud Cemetery off King Graves Road. Those who can help are asked to bring garden gloves, garden shears, and if possible, milk jugs containing water to wash down the grave stones. Bottled water for drinking will be provided.
