Safety Day set at Mosquito Lake

SAFETY DAY AT MOSQUITO LAKE: The Bazetta Township Police Department in conjunction with the Mosquito Lake Marina will host the 10th annual Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mosquito Lake State Park, 1439 state Route 305.

The event will include vehicles and representatives from local police and fire departments, state and federal agencies and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There will be children’s fingerprinting, K-9 and Taser demonstrations, the Metro LifeFlight helicopter, and Heather Merritt’s Birds in Flight sanctuary. There will be free tote bags and drawings for free bikes and other prizes.

TMH HOSTS SAFETY FAIR: A free orthopedic and safety fair hosted by Trumbull Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 14 in the hospital’s main parking area, 1350 E. Market St., Warren.

Those attending will meet with TMH physicians and staff, explore a variety of health care displays, participate in health screenings, obtain health information, and other activities. Friendly Squares from Niles, Sneakers ‘N Spurs dance line from Howland-Cortland SCOPE, and the Steven Foster Chorus will demonstrate their dancing skills and provide entertainment.

Safety exhibits include a smoke safety trailer for kids and a texting-while-driving simulator. Trumbull Memorial Hospital physicians, orthopedic staff and emergency staff will be available to answer questions.

LIBRARY HOSTS KICKOFF: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will kick off its summer reading program with a party from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday outside on the library’s front lawn. There will be games, activities and crafts for children of all ages including a special storytime for readers, bocce, yard games, and a scavenger hunt. Those who sign up will receive a free food bag. There will be a movie on the lawn with free popcorn and pop.

Those attending can bring a blanket.

BIKE RIDE SET: The ninth annual WOW Bicycle Tour on Saturday will ride along the Western Reserve Greenway through Trumbull and Ashtabula counties with rides of 20, 40 or 62 miles. There will be raffle drawing and prizes.
