Youth fishing derby planned
CLUB TO HOST FISHING DERBY: The Eagle Creek Conservation Club will host its 40th annual youth fishing derby from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Newton Falls Community Center pond, 52 E. Quarry St. The derby is a free event open to all children 15 and younger. Registration begins at 11 a.m.

EVENT TO FILL THE CRUISER: Juniors from Girl Scout Troop 80378 “Fill the Cruisers” from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Niles Car Show in downtown Niles. Donations of toiletries and nonperishable food are being sought which will be given to local charities in need.
AWARENESS DAY PLANNED: The Western Mahoning County Office of the Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership will celebrate Community Action Awareness Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at their office, 305 North 15th St., Sebring.

ASSOCIATION TO MARK 20 YEARS: The Youngstown Association of Black Professional Firefighters will host a banquet at 7 p.m. today at the Regency House to honor its 20th anniversary. The program will include Jesse Carter, Youngstown’s first African-American firefighter, and awarding of the Sharyl E. Frasier Everett Scholarship. Frasier was Youngstown’s first female firefighter and a charter member of the organization.
CAR CRUISE SHOWCASES VEHICLES: Champion car cruise will be held from1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Champion Plaza, 4429 Mahoning Ave. N.W. Rain date is June 9.
