ANDERSONVILLE PRISON TOPIC OF PROGRAM: The Kinsman Historical Society will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at the Kinsman Presbyterian Church parlor, 6383 Church St., with guest speaker James Carnes of Mercer, Pa. Carnes will speak on the Andersonville, Ga., prison and the Union soldiers captured during the Civil War. Madison Karr, a Badger school student, will do a 10-minute program on Kinsman. GARRETTSVILLE HOLDS YARD SALE: The Garrettsville Chamber of Commerce will hold its 20th annual community yard sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with more than 200 participants. Vendors will also be set up at Sky Plaza and Freedom Park. Maps will be available at local businesses.

EVENT TO HELP ALZHEIMER’S: Clad in green gardening aprons, volunteers from Bankers Life and Casualty Company’s Youngstown branch sales office will take to the streets to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Association. In exchange for donations, packets of forget-me-not flower seeds will be given to donors, encouraging them to plant the seeds in honor of those with Alzheimer’s disease. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association local chapter. The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Walgreens Pharmacy, 804 W. Market St., Warren, and on Friday at Walmart, 2016 Millennium Blvd., Cortland.

GARDENING DEMONSTRATION: Trumbull County Master Gardener Kathleen Ference will demonstrate how to plant using containers at 6 p.m. today at the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Center, 521 W. Main St., Cortland. The program is free to the public.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION SET: Deliverance Temple Church, 1849 West Ave. N.W., Warren, in conjunction with Youngstown Community Food Center will distribute groceries at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Those needing items are asked to bring photo identification and a utility bill.
