Bike to Work Day is Friday in Warren
WARREN – The second annual Bike to Work Day will be held from 6 to 9 a.m. Friday at the Log Cabin in Courthouse Square.
Mel Milliron, a member of the committee planning the event, said Bike to Work encourages people to be more physically active.
“This is for all bicycle enthusiasts,” he said, adding that a sign-in sheet at the event will ask people for their name and where they rode from.
Milliron said that last year people arrived as early as 5:30 a.m. coming from Southington, Bazetta, Lordstown, Newton Falls and Warren.
He said he expects some employees from Warren City Schools, local manufacturing businesses and and downtown businesses.
“We want to promote Warren as a safe, bike-friendly community so more people are bicycling,” Milliron said.
David Ambrose, a committee member, said nationwide efforts are being made to identify communities as “bike friendly.”
Milliron said the event will raise awareness.
Many of the local cyclists have asked about the local bike trails and how to get to Perkins Park, the Mocha House and other places. Milliron said maps will be available.
A free continental breakfast will be provided to anyone who arrives on a bicycle. Milliron said there will also be T-shirts and sling bags given to the first 100 people who arrive on a bicycle.
Showers will be available at the YMCA on High Street; riders are asked to bring their own towel.
The event is being sponsored by Warren city, Trumbull County Metro Parks, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and Trumbull County Creating Healthy Communities
