Strimbu fundraiser marks 24th year

CHAMPION – Students in the multimedia production classes at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center earned first-place honors at the state competition and will be heading to nationals in May.

Cassie Waggoner, a junior at TCTC, was the winner in Digital Media Production individual at the 2013 Business Professionals of America Ohio State Champion Leadership conference.

In the competition, students were asked to create a one- to two-minute promotional production. Students in the contest were judged on production, layout, graphics and media use and the overall content of the production.

Waggoner received a score of 279 out of 280 points, said her instructor, Kris Doran.

The video production team of Sarah Ellis, Jalon Lee, Frank Carsone and Brianna Kester also took first place.

Doran said students were given the task of creating a three- to five-minute video production based on the topic “Turn Around the X in Rx and Make a + Impact.”

Students in the contest were judged on including multiple camera shots, interviews, voice-overs, end credits, quality and their presentation skills.

The team presentation was on prescription drug abuse creating a message video about youth making bad choices.

Doran said the students will compete next at nationals May 6 to 12 in Orlando, Fla.

Other honors at the state event were Brian Howard, third place, Prepared Speech; Justin Habraken, Christopher Taylor, Chandler Hodges, Ian Roberts, second place for Broadcast News Production Team; and Carter Brady, second place, Extemporaneous Speaking.
