Rock-a-thon to benefit student
SOUTHINGTON HOSTS ROCK-A-THON BENEFIT: The staff and students of Southington Middle School and Chalker High School will be holding a fundraiser from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday at the new school complex on state Route 534.
The event is being held to help student Garrett “Iron Man” Proverbs, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Participants are actively seeking sponsors who will pledge an hourly dollar amount or a flat donation for each hour that they rock. There will also be a Chinese auction. The rockers will also be judges during the day for a pizza war between several local shops. The winner will receive a certificate and a trophy to display in their shop.

TALENT SHOW AT SCHOOL: Baker Elementary School in Fowler will hold a talent show from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Mathews High School in Vienna. The event is being sponsored by the Mathews PTO and will include desserts and auctions between acts.
CHURCH HOSTS SALE: The Howland United Methodist Church, 720 Howland Wilson Road, will present the 30th annual garage sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
AWL NEEDS CARDS: The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is in need of donations of all-occasion and thank-you cards. Cards can be dropped off at 545 Brunstetter Road S.W., Lordstown, or at the Menagerie Thrift and Gift Store, 6037 E. Market St., Howland.
FOOD PANTRY SET: Trinity Baptist Church will hold its community food pantry from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Bruda Center, 212 Highland Ave., Warren. The food pantry is held the second Friday of each month. For emergency assistance, call 330-394-6733.
