Mission to present Servant Heart Awards

YOUNGSTOWN – The Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, 962 Martin Luther King Blvd., will award eight local volunteers with Servant Heart Awards at 1:30 p.m. Saturday as part of National Volunteer Week.

Lynn Wyant, director of development for the mission, said all volunteers are invited to attend the appreciation event following the Servant Heart ceremony which will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Rescue Mission Dining Hall.

The Servant’s Heart Award was established in 2006 by the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley to recognize exceptional volunteers serving in the ministry. Awards will be presented in the Rescue Mission Chapel by Executive Director Jim Echement to the following individuals:

Sharon Sanders of Youngstown, who volunteers in the warehouse;

Edith Jackson of Youngstown, who volunteers in the kitchen;

Dorothy Grappo of Boardman, who volunteers in the data entry department;

Cal Gungle of Poland, who volunteers in the development department;

Gary Reel of Canfield, who volunteers at the resident building;

Tom and Danielle Gregory of Youngstown, who volunteer as praise team leaders, Sunday morning worship;

Brian Simpson of Hubbard, who is a volunteer musician, Sunday morning worship;

The Rev. David Wyant of Columbiana, who volunteers as a preacher for the weekly Sunday morning worship service for clients staying at the mission.

The ceremony to award the recipients will be followed by a tea with light refreshments.
