Groups host candidates night

CANDIDATES NIGHT SET: A Sixth Ward candidates night will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the TCAP, 1930 Palmyra Road S.W., Warren. The event is being sponsored by the Southwest Neighborhood Association and A. Philip Randolph Institute.

ASSOCIATION SETS MEETING: The Southeast Side Community Association will hold the monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. James White Hall, corner of Milton and Willard avenues. There will be a meet-the-candidates night.

SCOUTS HOST EVENT: The eighth annual “Scouting: Prepared for Life” fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. Sunday at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland. Various awards and recognition will take place. Guest speaker is Judge Wyatt McKay whose son, Robert, has earned many merit badges in scouting and will answer questions during the program. Former scoutmaster John Robinson and Trumbull 100 will both be recognized with awards. The event is sponsored by the Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America Arrowhead District. ENVIROTHON COMPETITION: The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District will host the Northeast Ohio High School Envirothon today at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm in Canfield. The envirothon is an academic, outdoor environmental competition for students in grades 9-12 where teams are tested on their knowledge of soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife and current environmental issues. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Rangeland Management.” The top four teams will represent the area in the Ohio Envirothon June 9 and 10 in Deer Creek State Park in Fayette.

CHURCH HOSTS BLOOD DRIVE: Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave., Warren, will hold a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday.

SPEECH NIGHT AT SCHOOL: Champion High School will host a speech night at 7 p.m. Friday in the school’s auditorium. The event is open to the public.
