Day for epilepsy awareness planned

PURPLE DAY TO BE CELEBRATED: International Purple Day will be celebrated Tuesday in the Mahoning Valley. Purple Day is an international grass roots effort dedicated to increasing awareness of epilepsy worldwide.

People are being asked to participate by wearing purple and to support a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Southern Park Mall. Mahoning Valley Epilepsy has developed a “Purple Pledge Jail” which imprisons volunteers for short periods of time to either raise awareness or raise money.

The internationally recognized color for epilepsy is lavender.

LOCAL RETIREES TO MEET: Local 2243 Copperweld Steel (SOAR Chapter 1-28-10) Retirees will meet at 1 p.m. today at Local 1375 Union Hall on North Park Avenue, Warren. The speaker will be Herb Bollenbacher. Refreshments will be served.

EGG EVENT TO FEATURE ANIMALS: Warren First Assembly, 2640 Parkman Road N.W., Warren, will hold an Easter egg extravaganza from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free event will feature exotic animals and more than 15,000 eggs in a jungle theme. For information, call 330-898-1775.

FREE CLOTHES OFFERED: St. William Parish Office, 5431 Mahoning Ave., Champion, will hold a free clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

CUPCAKE CREATIONS BEING MADE: Cupcake Creations will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Howland Library Branch. Participants ages 5 to 12 can create frosted creatures and sweet treats using simple decorating techniques. Registration is required and can be made by calling 330-856-2011.

RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT: Freestyle Karate, 5000 E. Market St., Suite 28, Warren, will hold a spring kickoff from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday with a basket raffle, indoor Easter egg hunt and concessions, with proceeds to benefit Relay For Life.
