March for Meals set for Saturday

MARCHING TO HELP MEALS: Trumbull Mobile Meals will host their annual March for Meals from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Eastwood Mall volunteer booth in the JCPenney / Target concourse. Registration is 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Mobile Meals. Each walker is asked to get a minimum donation of $5 for the event. Prizes will be awarded. TMM RECEIVES DONATION: Trumbull Mobile Meals, 323 E. Market St., Warren, recently received a $2,000 check at Boardman Subaru as its share of the proceeds from the Subarau of America “Share the Love” promotion.

TMM qualified to receive the money because it is a member of the Meals on Wheels Association of America, one of Subarau’s chosen charities. TMM said it will use the money to purchase electric, insulated delivery bags that keep foods at a constant hot temperature.

During the “Share the Love” event, Subarau donated $250 to the owner’s chosen five different charities for each vehicle sold or leased.

The salespeople from Boardman Subarau and TMM volunteered and delivered meals to the homebound, ill, frail and physically disabled members of the community.

DISCUSSION ON DEALING WITH THREATS: The Mahoning County District Board of Health will sponsor “Active Shooter / Threats: Civilian Response in the Workplace, Schools and other Places” from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at McMahon Hall, Mill Creek Metroparks Farm, 7574 Columbiana Canfield Road. The discussion will be on what individuals, who are not law enforcement, can do to prepare themselves and address shooting threats that have occurred in schools, work places and public locations.

SCIENCE AT WORK PROGRAM: The Lordstown Library Branch, 1471 Salt Springs Road, will host “Young Science Wizards” at 4:30 p.m. Monday where children in grades kindergarten to third can experiment with hands-on science programs. Registration is required by calling 330-824-2094.

SOCIETY PLANS EVENT: Vienna Historical Society will hold the third annual wine tasting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 23 at Winestyles in Howland’s Giant Eagle Plaza. Cost is $15 per person. Tickets will be available at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vienna Township Hall or from Christine at 330-647-4276.

WINTER ASSISTANCE OFFERED: Trumbull Community Action Program’s winter crisis program provides assistance for those who qualify toward their winter heating expenses. Photo identification and social security cards for all household members are needed. TCAP will be taking walk-in customers Monday through Friday.

MYCAP SEEKS VOLUNTEERS: MYCAP is in need of volunteer tax preparers to help with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. This is a national program that helps people get their local, state and federal taxes prepared at no cost to the taxpayer. Volunteers will prepare taxes for those who have gross incomes of $51,000 or less in 2012.

Volunteers choose their days and hours in February and March at the MYCAP office, 1325 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown. Online training is available.
