Civil War program at Howland library

CIVIL WAR PROGRAM: Trumbull County and Ohio during the Civil War will be part of a program at 7 p.m. today at the Howland branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 9095 East Market St. Harry Schoger, a member of Trumbull County’s Civil War 150 Committee, will present the program. The program is free.

UNITED WAY MARKS EVENT: The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley will meet at 10:30 a.m. today at Greenwood Chevrolet, 4695 Mahoning Ave., Austintown, to announce the results of the 2012 campaign.

RAIN BARREL PROGRAM OFFERED: The Warren-Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership will host a free public event at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Raymond John Wean Foundation, 147 W. Market St., Warren. The event will feature guest speaker Amy Reeher, watershed coordinator with Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation, who will discuss rain barrels and rain gardens.

FREE HEALTH FAIR SET: SouthernCare Hospice is hosting a free health fair and blood drive in support of American Heart Month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lariccia Family Community Center, Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road. The American Red Cross will be collecting blood. Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled by calling 330-797-8940.

BEES TOPIC OF PROGRAM: Ohio State University Extension and the Trumbull County Master Gardeners will host a workshop titled “Basic Bee Identification and Gardening for Pollinators” from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Trumbull County Extension, 520 W. CIVIL WAR PROGRAM PLANNED: Trumbull County and Ohio in the Civil War is the topic of a program at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Howland Library Branch, 9095 E. Market St. Harry Schoger, a member of the Trumbull County CW150 Committee, will discuss some of the region’s significant individuals and events during the Civil War. The event is free to the public.

COMPETITION SET: Mathcounts, a national math enrichment competition program for children in grades seven and eight, will take place today at Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University. Middle school students from throughout the area will take part.

PROGRAMS CANCELED FOR BANQUET: Due to the annual McKinley Banquet being held Monday at the McKinley Memorial Library, Niles, the following regularly scheduled children’s programs are canceled for next week: Mother Goose on the Loose Baby Storytime on Monday; Reader-Totters Storytime on Monday; Pozy’s Pals Preschool Storytime on Tuesday; and Build-It / Bead-It Club on Saturday.

READING AND ART COMBINED: Reading and Other Forms of Art will be held for kids 10 and younger at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Institute of American Art-Trumbull Branch, 9350 E. Market St., Howland. The interactive family program blends art and books. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
