Looking at Valley’s earliest settlers

PIONEERS OF THE VALLEY TOPIC OF PROGRAM: The Vienna Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township hall with guest speaker Traci Manning, curator of education from the Mahoning Valley Historical Society. Manning will present “Pioneers in the Valley,” which will explore the lives of the earliest settlers to the area from 1796 to 1830.

Artifacts displayed will include maps, lighting equipment, household tools, toys and appliances.

READERS PROGRAM OFFERED: “Turning Pages at the Library” will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library for beginning readers. The program includes reading, games and snack. Registration is required by calling 330-856-2011.

RALLY PLANNED: Frackfree America National Coalition in Youngstown, will seek registered voters signatures to put a local control “Community Bill of Rights” question on the May primary ballot.

The group will hold a rally at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Unitarian Unversalist Church 1105 Elm St., Youngstown, then go door-to-door canvassing for voters to sign a petition from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the church.

The group says it wants to protecting Mill Creek Park from fracking. Frackfree Mahoning Valley and Frackfree America National Coalition have been providing educational efforts.

LIBRARY SEEKS LETTERS OF INTEREST: The Hubbard Public Library Board of Trustees is accepting letters of interest for a new member to fill a vacant position on the board. This position would begin in March and continue through March of 2016.

Hubbard Public Library is a school district library with a seven member board appointed by the Hubbard Board of Education. The board generally meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. To be considered for the position, send a letter of interest detailing qualifications by Feb. 8 to Sherry Ault, Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St., Hubbard 44425.

OPEN HOUSE PLANNED: Toastmasters International will hold its open house from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. Monday at Shepherd of the Valley, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, Youngstown.

MISSION OFFERS COLD WEATHER PROGRAM: The Warren Family Mission is encouraging people in the community who are homeless or do not have working utilities to get out of the dangerous elements and come to the mission.

The mission is offering a cold weather program at 361 Elm Road, where beds are available. The program also provides three warm meals a day. The mission also offers one-year drug and alcohol programs, a GED program, men’s work readiness programs, a family home for families in crisis, food to the public, monthly food bags and clothing, blankets and furniture.
