Celebrating McKinley’s 170th

LIBRARY TO CELEBRATE PRESIDENT’S BIRTHDAY: President William McKinley’s 170th birthday celebration will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley Birthplace Memorial Home Research Center, Main Street, downtown Niles. Refreshments will be served with tours of the home, where trivia game activities and displays about McKinley will be set up. CAKE DECORATING FOR TEENS: The McKinley Memorial Library, Main Street, Niles, will offer cake decorating at 6 p.m. Thursday. Participants will use icing, sprinkles and other items. For more information, call 330-652-1704.

CENTER HELPS COMMUNITY: The Mahoning Valley Hope Center, 3217 Surrey Road, Warren, will offer Project Hope on Wednesday where volunteers will be on the streets feeding and clothing those in need. The center is in need of donations of food, cash, personal hygiene items and winter items such as hats, gloves, nylon sleeping bags and blankets. Donations are tax deductible. Call 330-369-3010.

BALLOON ACTIVITIES AT CENTER: The Oh Wow! Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, Youngstown, will hold a balloon blowup activity from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today and Thursday. The program is on chemical reactions.

BAND TO PARTICIPATE: The Champion High School Symphonic Band has been selected to perform at the University of Akron Wind and Percussion Festival on Feb. 11. The band will perform with another band in a joint concert with the University of Akron Wind Ensemble. Champion band students will spend the day at the university music school and perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. This festival is more than 30 years old, and Champion is the first band from Trumbull County to be selected. Thomas Brucoli is director of the band.
