Bishop to be keynote speaker

DIVERSITY EVENT PLANNED: Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the 117th elected and consecrated bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, will be the keynote speaker at Youngstown State University’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity breakfast event from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. The event includes the presentation of the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Awards. Tickets are $25 and $12 for students. NEW ORGANIZATION SETS MEETING: The Sons of the American Legion Howland Post 700 is a new organization that meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at the American Legion Post 700 in Howland SCOPE Center.

WINTER CRUISE PART OF PROGRAM: The Girard High School Drama Club will present a winter play at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Girard High School cafetorium, Shannon Road. The play will include characters on a cruise. Cost $5 adults and $4 students and senior citizens.

MOVIE THEATER TO DONATE TO SCHOOL: Encore Cinema in the Great East Plaza is sponsoring the North Road Intermediate School for the holiday by donating 50 percent of each movie package purchased today to the school for its library.
