Professor to speak at TBEIC

WARREN — An expert in water and wastewater treatment will headline the 2019 Mahoning Valley Engineer of the Year Awards ceremony.

Helen Muga, program director and assistant professor of engineering at Baldwin Wallace University, will speak at the April 3 event at the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center in downtown Warren.

Muga is one of the first women from Papua New Guinea to receive a doctorate in engineering. Her areas of expertise include water and wastewater treatment and renewable energy. Muga’s presentation will highlight entrepreneurial training within engineering programs in higher education.

The awards ceremony, which coincides with Global Engineering Day, begins at 5 p.m with a social hour and dinner and awards at 6 p.m.

Awards will be handed out for Engineer of the Year, Best Young Professional, Distinguished Female and Community Impact. Nominations will be accepted through Wednesday. For more information and to nominate an engineer or register for an event, go to https://www.tbeic.org/our-events.

The day also will feature workshops at TBEIC, 125 W. Market St., Warren, with AmericaMakes and Keysight. The awards ceremony is being hosted by TBEIC and the Valley Alliance for Science and Technology.
