Port authority supports GM workers

LORDSTOWN — The Western Reserve Port Authority on Wednesday joined several other local governments in a show of support for General Motors Lordstown employees and others impacted by the decision to idle the plant next year.

The resolution, approved unanimously by the eight-person board, also states the board will work with local leaders to “outline and coordinate a plan for a viable economic solution.”

GM announced in November its intention to idle the plant, and four others in North America, in March 2019. The company also stated it will no longer produce the Chevrolet Cruze, which has been assembled in Lordstown since 2010. The last day for employees at the plant is March 8.
