Rally’s Drive-In coming to Warren

Tribune Chronicle

WARREN — The city will soon have a new Rally’s Drive-In restaurant.

Warren’s building department last week approved plans that give South Street Investments / Keystone Trail of Cortland the OK to begin building the restaurant at 519 South St. SE.

“I think it will be the only Rally’s in this area,” said Chris Taneyhill, a Warren building official.

He said the city received the company’s application for the construction project July 14.

Rally’s restaurants, located in nearly 30 states, are owned by Sentinel Capital Partners, headquartered in New York, and operated by Tampa, Fla.-based Checkers Drive-In Restaurants Inc.

Checker’s was established in 1986 in Mobile, Ala. Rally’s first opened in 1985 in Louisville, Ky. The two merged in 1999.

A Rally’s at the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles closed several years ago. Now, the fast food hamburger chain’s closest restaurant to Warren is in Akron.

The site at Elm Road and South Street SE most recently was a used car lot.

South Street Investments paid for $50,000 for the property in July, according to the Trumbull County Auditor’s website.

No one from the company could be reached for comment.
