Chevrolet Cruze production back on for the week of Oct. 2

LORDSTOWN — Production at the local General Motors Assembly Complex is back on for the week of Oct. 2.

Previously, the week was included in the 2017 downtime schedule at the Lordstown plant, where the Chevrolet Cruze sedans are built.

Last week, the local facility’s approximately 3,000 employees received word that three additional weeks of downtime had been added to their schedule — this week and the weeks of Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 — as part of the automaker’s ongoing effort to align production with demand and because of a supplier issue, local union leaders said. Details about the supplier issue were not disclosed.

Earlier this year, GM announced plans to roll back Cruze production this year to reduce inventory. The plant was down for three weeks in March and again during a scheduled two-week vacation period at the end of June. The plant also shut down for three weeks in July.
