Racino marks 2nd best month for wagering
AUSTINTOWN — Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course started the fiscal year off strong by marking its second highest month for wagering on its video lottery terminals since the local facility opened in September 2014.
In July, the first month of the 2018 fiscal year, the Austintown facility saw $99.14 million credits played, up more than $8 million compared to the same month last year when there were $91.07 million credits played, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission, which oversees video lottery terminals, or VLTs, in the state.
The facility marked its best-ever month in March with $99.95 million credits played. There were $94.24 million credits played in June.
At the racino in July, compared to the same month in 2016, there were $87.94 million credits won, up from $81.22 million; net winnings, or the net revenues remaining after payout of prizes to players were at $9.78 million, up from $8.79 million; the percent payout was 90.13, down from 90.35; and the win per VLT per day was $305, up from $289.
Of the net winnings in July, $6.47 million went to Penn National Gaming; $3.28 million went to the state lottery commission; and $32,533 went to problem-gambling services.
Last month at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, also owned by Penn National, compared to July 2016, there were $88.33 million in credits played, up from $84.26 million; $78.52 million credits won by gamers, up from $74.67 million; net winnings were at $8.32 million, up from $7.77 million; the percent payout was 90.58, down from 90.77; and the win per VLT per day was $265, up from $253. Of the net winnings in July, $5.5 million went to Penn National Gaming Inc.; $2.79 million went to the state lottery commission; and $27,668 went to problem-gambling services.
Statewide, Ohio’s seven racinos also started the new year off with increases. In the same year-over-year comparison for July, VLT wagering totaled $927.45 million, up from $871.79 million; credits won were at $827.26 million, up from $778.23 million; net winnings were $84.53 million, up from $80.07 million; the percentage payout was 90.89, up from 90.82; and the win per VLT per day was $246, up from $236.
