Valley auto sales climb in May

WARREN — Area auto sales rose more than 15 percent in May compared to the same month last year.

Last month, 5,206 new and used vehicles were sold in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association. That compares to 4,388 in May 2016.

There were 5,021 new cars and trucks sold in April.

Year-to-date, there were 24,898 new and used vehicle sales in the tri-county area, as of May 31, up nearly 12 percent compared to 21,987 in the same period last year.

Sales of new vehicles rose, year-over-year, nearly 17 percent, to 2,892 from 2,410 for May.

Used vehicle sales also increased for the month to 2,234 from 1,916 the same month last year, climbing more than 14 percent.

In April, there were 2,805 new and 2,147 used vehicles sold.

Comparing year-to-date numbers, there were 14,277 new vehicles sold as of May 31, up more than 15 percent from 12,075 in 2016, and 10,214 used, up more than 6 percent from 9,570.

Greenwood Chevrolet in Hubbard was the automobile dealer in Trumbull County to sell the most vehicles with 123 new cars and trucks; followed by Diane Sauer Chevrolet in Warren with 116; and Apostolakis Honda in Bazetta with 91.
