Staples plans to close Boardman store in July

BOARDMAN — Staples said it plans to close its Boardman store July 8, but stores in Niles and in Hermitage, Pa., will stay open, a company spokesman said Monday.

Closing the store on Doral Drive is part of company’s effort “to right-size” its retail footprint, according to the Framingham, Mass.-based office supply chain.

The company announced plans last month to close 70 locations this year. Staples has 1,255 stores in the United States and 304 stores in Canada. The company, which closed 48 stores last year, reported a 2.8 percent drop in sales in 2016 compared to the prior year.
