Local gas prices are up

WARREN — Although local gas prices crept up last week, they still remained lower than they were a year ago at this time.

In the Youngstown-Warren area on Monday, the average price of a regular gallon of gasoline was about $2.27, up 3 cents compared to May 29 and the same time last month, according to national auto club AAA. The cost was $2.51 around the same day last year.

Gas prices in Ohio, on average, were $2.35 a gallon on Monday, compared to $2.29 a week ago, $2.24 a month ago and $2.61 this time last year.

Ohio was among the country’s top 10 markets with the biggest week-to-week changes, up 6 cents Monday from the same day the prior week. The others were Indiana and Michigan, up 7 cents; Florida, up 6 cents; Utah, up 4 cents; Illinois, down 4 cents; and Delaware, Missouri, Oklahoma and Maryland, all down 3 cents.

Nationally, the price of a gallon of regular gasoline on Monday increased 1 cent to $2.38 from $2.37 last week. The cost a month ago, $2.36 a gallon, was consistent with the price the same time last year.
