Developer recognized by Regional Chamber

BOARDMAN — The developer of the Lordstown Energy Center said he and his team “really didn’t know anything about the Mahoning Valley” before his first visit to Lordstown.

“But truly we do today,” said Bill Siderewicz, president of Boston-based Clean Energy Future.

Siderewicz credited local officials, including Lordstown Mayor Arno Hill, community members and leaders of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber with helping his company move forward with its plans to build two billion dollar gas-powered electric plants along Henn Parkway in Lordstown.

The first one, the Lordstown Energy Center, is under construction. A second plant, the Trumbull Energy Center, is in the planning stages. Plans are for the twin facilities to stand next to each other.

On Thursday, Siderewicz was among four men recognized by the chamber for the impact each has made on the community. He received the William G. Lyden Jr. Spirit of The Valley award at the chamber’s annual luncheon.

Gary Small, president / CEO of Home Savings, received the Donald Cagigas Spirit of the Chamber Award. Mahoning County Auditor Ralph Meacham and Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel each received the Chairman’s Political Achievement Award.

Small was recognized for his dedication to the chamber’s “Victory for the Valley” campaign to get the area noticed by developers and others during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

Mandel was honored for establishing the website ohiocheckbook.com that enables government agencies across the state to post their finances online for taxpayers to review. Meacham, who is responsible for making his office the first to post its finances to the site, was recognized for working with Mandel in the effort.
