Valley sees slight drop in price of gasoline

WARREN — The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline on Monday dipped below $2 at some fuel stations across the Mahoning Valley.

However, national auto club AAA reported that the average cost for a gallon of regular gas in the Warren-Youngstown area was $2.02 — a slight drop from the $2.06 it was a week ago. That compares to a month ago when it was $2.10 and last year at this time when it was $2.09.

Nationwide, AAA said, Monday’s drop in the average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline was not enough to move it below last year’s average price. Across the country, the average price was $2.21 on Monday compared to $2.22 a week ago, $2.21 a month ago and $2.17 the same time last year.

National gas prices, as of Monday, had dropped for six consecutive days, but the usual seasonal decline stalled as prices remained roughly the same since early September.

Statewide, average prices were $2.05 a gallon on Monday versus $2.03 a week ago, $2.13 a month ago and $2.18 a year ago.
