Valley gas prices are down from week ago
WARREN — Area gas prices were down about 7 cents on Monday from where they were a week ago, but up about a penny compared to this time last month, according to national auto club AAA.
The cost for a gallon of regular gasoline, on average, in the Warren-Youngstown area was $2.06 on Monday. A week ago Valley consumers paid an average of $2.13 for a regular gallon of gas. The average cost was $2.05 and $2.13 a month and a year ago, respectively.
Statewide, regular gas averaged $2.04 a gallon at the pump compared to $2.16 a week ago, $2.10 a month ago and $2.16 a year ago.
AAA leaders said the biggest weekly price decreases were reflected in Ohio and Michigan, each by 12 cents; Illinois, 6 cents; Wisconsin and Kentucky, 5 cents; Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee, 4 cents; and Oklahoma and Kansas, 3 cents.
Nationally, the average price at the pump fell for 15 out of 16 days, for a total savings of 4 cents per gallon, auto club leaders said. The national average price on Monday was $2.22 per gallon, which is two cents less than one week ago when it was $2.24, one cent more than one month ago and a year ago when it was $2.21.
The National average was down 17 cents per gallon versus the 2016 peak price reached in June of $2.39.
The nation’s top 10 most expensive markets, AAA reported, were Hawaii at $2.89 a gallon; California, $2.78; Washington, $2.73; Alaska, $2.63; Oregon, $2.55; Nevada, $2.51; Idaho, $2.46; District of Columbia, $2.45; Pennsylvania, $2.40; and Montana, $2.37.
