Hollywood Gaming plays decline

AUSTINTOWN – January marked the slowest month for video lottery plays at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course since it opened Sept. 27.

The Ohio Lottery Commission on Monday reported that $65 million worth of credits were played on video lottery terminals at the Austintown facility last month, including $325,000 in promotional play credits. Players wagered $69 million on the machines in December, including $537,000 in promotional plays.

Also last month, $57 million in credits were won and the average payout was 89 percent, amounting to $257 per day, per machine. Net winnings last month were close to $7 million. Of that, $4.6 million went to the racing commission, $2.3 million went to the Ohio Lottery Commission and $23,000 went to gambling services.

October remains the facility’s best month, when $80 million credits were played during the racino’s first full month of operation.

Meanwhile, three of Ohio’s four full-service casinos had an increase in revenue last month.

Overall, the state’s four casinos raked in nearly $65 million in January. That was up nearly 9 percent over January 2014 when snow and record cold temperatures kept many gamblers at home. The casinos in Columbus and Toledo saw the biggest increases.

Columbus led the state with nearly $18 million in revenue last month for a 17 percent gain. Toledo’s casino had the biggest jump percentage wise. Its revenue of $14.3 million was up 24 percent over January a year ago.

Cleveland’s casino was up 4 percent to $17.4 million in revenue. Revenue at Cincinnati’s casino was down 6 percent over the month.
