ODT launches new mobile tax app

The Ohio Department of Taxation launched a mobile app to help business people, shoppers or anyone who wants to know the state’s correct sales tax rate.

Each county in Ohio has its own sales tax rate, ranging from 6.5 to 8 percent of the taxable price of the product or service being purchased. The free mobile app uses GPS technology to identify the place of the purchase and the appropriate tax rate at that location.

Earlier this year, ODT launched an app that allows users to obtain information about the status of their current state and school district individual income tax returns. Users have to enter personal information, such as Social Security number, birthdate and type of tax they are inquiring about, to use the app.

Users can also obtain information about the state’s new tax cuts, access ODT’s Facebook page and find phone, email and website contact information for the ODT.

Both apps are available to download at no charge at the Google Play or iTunes App Store. You can access either via the ODT web site at tax.ohio.gov
