Local auto sales rising

Local auto dealers continued to see a significant increase in new car sales last month, jumping to 2,471 new cars sold in the tri-county area, up 7.3 percent from the 2,302 sold in October 2013.

Year-to-date figures show an 8.4 percent increase in new car sales in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties to 25,804 new cars sold, the Auto Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.

Austintown’s Greenwood Chevrolet remained the top selling local auto dealer, moving 140 new cars off its lot in October. That’s up 8 from the 132 sold last year at this time.

Sweeney Buick GMC was only two new car sales behind Greenwood, at 138. Sweeney Chevrolet sold 121, and Bob and Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep sold 115. Rounding out the top five was Taylor Kia, with 115.

New car buyers from Trumbull County took delivery on 621 new cars here last month. Sims Buick GMC Nissan sold 101, showing a large jump of 80 percent from the 56 it sold this time last year. Diane Sauer Chevrolet sold 81, and Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren sold 69.

Trumbull County buyers also took delivery on 960 used cars, and Mahoning County buyers took delivery on 2,173 used cars. Both numbers represented increases over October 2013.

Greenwood Hubbard led used car sales in Trumbull County with 88; Cole Valley Motor Company sold 72; and Sims Buick GMC Nissan sold 66.

Mahoning County used car sales were led by Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown, at 133, followed by Taylor Kia and Donnell Ford, each with 96.

Chevy Cruze, built at the Lordstown GM plant, led all new local car sales, with 177 sold in the three-county market in October. That figure is up 24 vehicles over the 153 sold in October 2013.

Silverado pickup truck ranked second at 156, Ford F-150 was third at 82; 79 Chevrolet Equinoxes were sold; and 78 GMC Terrains were sold, to round out the top five.
