Foundation distributes $125,000 in grants

YOUNGSTOWN – The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has awarded of $124,800 in grants to 29 nonprofit organizations across Mahoning and Trumbull counties in the second quarter of 2014.

The largest grant of $45,000 went to the Stambaugh Auditorium Capital Campaign, an effort to renovate the landmark Youngs-town performing arts center.

Funds came from the Kennedy Family Fund and the John S. and Doris M. Andrews Memorial Fund, two of the funds managed by the Community Foundation.

Other large grants distributed in the three months ended June 30 included:

$18,000 for the YWCA of Warren’s Summer Day Camp, a five-week science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, program for middle school girls, with funds from the Kennedy Family Fund, the Ralph E. and Esther K. Meacham Memorial Fund and other funds.

$12,300 for the Student Aspirations Project in the Youngstown City School District, a three-year plan to change culture in the schools, funded by Youngstown City Schools Foundation.

$10,000 to Neighborhood Ministries for after-school and summer children’s programs in Youngstown and Campbell, funded by Kennedy Family Fund.
