Community Health Systems’ earnings rise
Community Health Systems, Inc., reported Thursday a nearly 50 percent increase in net operating revenues for the three months ended June 30, compared with the same quarter in 2013.
Net earnings totaled $4.78 billion, up from $3.191 billion for the same period last year.
The earnings included data for Health Management Associates, following CHS’s Jan. 27 acquisition of that health system.
Income from continuing operations increased to $75 million, or 42 cents per share, for the three months ended June 30, compared with income from continuing operations of $53 million, or 38 cents per share, for the same period in 2013.
CHS, based in Tennessee, is the parent company of Valley Healthcare System of Ohio, which operates Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Northside Medical Center in Youngstown and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland, along with several other ancillary facilities in the Mahoning Valley.
