Car sales continue to climb

WARREN – Local sales of the Lordstown-made Chevrolet Cruze continued to soar in July, with local buyers taking delivery of 222 new Cruzes in July.

The figure is up 21 percent from the number of new Cruzes sold locally in July 2013, the Auto Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio announced.

The car was the top seller last month in the Trumbull-Mahoning-Columbiana County market.

Other big sellers were the Chevy Equinox sport utility vehicle, at 202, up 85 percent from last year at this time; Chevy Silverado pickup truck, which sold 121, down 32 percent from a year ago; and Chevy Malibu, at 116, also down 33 percent. Rounding out the top-selling five vehicles was GMC Terraine, at 88, up 28 percent from a year ago.

Overall, new car sales increased 16 percent to 3,090 for July in the three-county area. Year-to-date, new car deliveries stand at 17,889, up 8.3 percent.

Leading new car sales in July is Sweeney Chevrolet, at 227. The dealership increased 46 percent from this time last year. Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown sold 202 new cars during the month; and Bob & Chuck Eddy Chrysler Dodge Jeep, also in Austintown, sold 161 new vehicles, up 58 percent from July 2013. Rounding out the top five dealers in the tri-county area for July was Stadium GM Superstore, which sold 151 last month and Taylor Kia at 136, the ADAEO reported.

Leading new car sales for Trumbull County was Sims Buick GMC Nissan with 121 new cars sold, a large increase from the 68 sold this time last year. Other top Trumbull County new car sellers were Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren, at 101, and Diane Sauer Chevrolet at 88.

Top used car dealerships in Trumbull County were Cole Valley Motor Company, which sold 61 used cars in July; Greenwood Hubbard Chevrolet, at 60; and Klaben of Warren at 59.
