Local auto sales jump again
WARREN – New car sales jumped by double-digit percentages in both Trumbull and Mahoning counties last month, according to statistics released by the Northeast Ohio Auto Dealers Association.
The increase marked the fifth consecutive month for new car purchase increases when compared to 2012.
Trumbull County buyers took delivery of 575 new cars in April, a total of 81 – or 16 percent – more than April 2012. Mahoning County buyers took delivery of 1,480 new cars, 159 – or 12 percent – more than April 2012.
Leading all local dealers in the local market was Austintown’s Greenwood Chevrolet, with 163 sales, up 66 percent over the 98 new cars the dealership sold in April 2012. In second place was Taylor Kia with 131 new car sales and Stadium GM Superstore with 128 new cars sold. All three dealerships are located in Mahoning County.
The top Trumbull County dealership for new car sales last month was Diane Sauer Chevrolet in Warren. Sauer sold 80 new vehicles, up 51 percent over the 53 sold at the dealership a year earlier. Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren ranked second in Trumbull County with 76 new car sales, and Apostolakis Honda Mazda sold 72 new cars.
Used car sales also were up in both counties, with 2,300 used cars sold in Mahoning and 861 used cars sold in Trumbull. Both were up double-digit percentage points.
Greenwood Chevy in Austintown reported the highest used car sales, with 149. Greenwood’s Hubbard Chevrolet ranked first in Trumbull County with 72 used car sales. Still that number was down from the 86 used cars sold in April 2012.
Throughout the local market, new car buyers purchased Chevy Cruze the most. Statistics show 160 new Cruzes were sold in April, up 43 percent over the 112 sold in April 2012. Other top-selling models were the Chevy Malibu, with 131; Chevy Silverado 1500, with 123; Chevrolet Equinox, with 115; and Ford Escape, at 94.
