Port board member’s term expired
VIENNA – Western Reserve Port Authority member Richard Schiraldi continues to hold his seat on the board that oversees operations at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, even though his term officially expired last year.
Mahoning Commissioner Carol Rimedio-Righetti said she is aware of the matter, but it has not yet come up for discussion by the commissioners, who will appoint the next person to fill the post. She expects to discuss it with her counterparts this week, she said, noting she would support Schiraldi’s reappointment.
In the meantime, though, the lack of action is not a problem and does not affect the validity of any votes cast by Schiraldi since his term expired Dec. 31, said port authority attorney Dan Keating. That’s because under Ohio case law, Schiraldi or any appointed board member can continue to serve until a replacement is named, he said.
Schiraldi could not be reached for comment directly Tuesday, but he left a message stating he has not yet discussed his future on the board with the commissioners.
The Port Authority is governed by an eight-member board of directors, four appointed by each the Mahoning and Trumbull County commissioners to fill staggered four-year terms.
Trumbull commissioners voted late last year to reappoint Scott Lewis as a Trumbull County representative to the board.
