New car sales post big gains
WARREN – Local new car sales continued their upswing in February, with buyers in the three-county area taking delivery of 1,766 automobiles, 238 more than they did in February 2012.
For the year, new car purchases are up 19.3 percent in the combined counties of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana. The figures were released Monday by the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.
Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown in February continued to lead all local dealers with 138 new autos sold, almost 50 percent higher than the 95 autos sold in February 2012.
Greenwood also ranked first in the three-county area for used car sales, selling 115. That number, however, was down about 14 percent from the number of used cars sold in February 2012.
Overall, used car sales slipped by 7.3 percent to 3,828 sold in February in the tri-county market.
In new car sales, Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman ranked second, with 104 new autos sold, and Fairway Ford ranked third with 87 new autos sold.
Klaben Ford Lincoln of Warren and Diane Sauer Chevrolet tied to lead sales of all new car dealerships in Trumbull County, each with 59 sales. Sims Buick GMC Nissan followed close behind with 53 new car deliveries.
Chevrolet remained the top-selling local make, holding down the top four spots. Local buyers took delivery on 117 Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks and 114 Chevrolet Equinox SUVs, followed by 104 Malibus and 93 Lordstown-built Chevy Cruze models. The Ford F-150 pickup truck rounded out the top five models.
All five top models posted increases over the previous year.
