New car sales post big gains
WARREN – Local new car sales rebounded in January, with buyers in the three-county area taking delivery of 2,237 automobiles, 410 more than they did in January 2012.
By comparison, local dealers had sold only 1,607 new cars in December.
Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown in January led all local dealers with 143 new autos sold, up about 13 percent over the January of 2012.
Greenwood also ranked first in the three-county area for used car sales, selling 137, or 8.7 percent more than the dealership sold in January 2012.
Overall, used car sales also increased by 8.7 percent to 3,042 sold in January in the tri-county market.
In new car sales, Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman ranked second, with 113 new autos sold, Sweeney Buick GMC ranked third.
Diane Sauer Chevrolet of Warren led sales of all new car dealerships in Trumbull County, moving 78 autos off the lot in January.
The dealership had sold just 56 in January 2012. Apostolakis Honda Mazda ranked second in the county, with 69 new car sales, more than doubling the 34 sold in January of 2012. Sims Buick GMC Nissan finished in third place with 65 new cars sold.
Chevrolet remained the top-selling local make, holding down the top three spots. Local buyers took delivery on 163 Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks and 133 Chevrolet Equinox SUVs. Both posted triple-digit percentage increases.
The Lordstown-built Chevy Cruze ranked third with 111 sold, but that was 16 percent fewer than the 132 sold in January 2012. Still, the number was double the 52 Cruzes sold in December.
