Deaf theater workshop is offered
CHAMPION — A free workshop on improvisational techniques for deaf theater is scheduled 1 to 4 p.m. March 23 in the student union at Kent State University at Trumbull, 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW.
Joey Caverly will facilitate the workshop. He is an improv veteran, an actor who has appeared on Broadway (“Children of a Lesser God”) and television (“Chicago Med”), a theater director and a founding member of the Royal 46 Kazoo Band of Walla Walla, Washington.
Using techniques applied in deaf theater, participants will be empowered to explore improv with sign language. These techniques will help participants build trusting relationships, hone listening skills and adapt effectively to different situations. All levels of American Sign Language skill are welcome. No registration is required. For more information, go to www.kent.edu/trumbull.
