‘Drag Queen’ marks 13th year
Performance dedicated to memory of Ray Beiersdorfer
The Rust Belt Theater Company will present the 13th annual production of “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas” for a three-weekend run starting Friday.
An off-the-wall retelling of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” “Drag Queen” tells the story of Starrlet O’Hara, a tyrant drag queen who is visited by three ghostly divas on Christmas Eve.
Written and composed by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, the show is updated each year to lampoon politics, current events and pop culture.
The cast features Nicole Zayas, Brooke Nobbs, Jude Mikulich, Kage Coven, Mary James, Janelle Yohman, Logan Stafford, Keith Ian, Josh Yohman, Lisa Torrence, Amanda Rudnytsky, Celena Coven, Rachel Clifford, Hunter James, Samuel Mentzer and Joki.
This year’s run is dedicated in loving memory to Ray Beiersdorfer, who was involved with the production for many years before his death in October.
“How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Dec. 15 with an additional midnight show on the final night at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Each performance will include a complimentary wine and cheese reception.
Theatergoers will also be able to purchase jewelry and souvenirs at “Starrlet’s Workshop,” which will feature the work of local artists. The production will also continue its annual tradition of raising funds for local charities during intermission.
