Chamber vocal ensemble opens music series

Red Campion Vocal Chamber Music Ensemble, featuring Warren native Brian Keith Johnson, will open Music from the Western Reserve’s 36th season.

The program will feature a mix of vocal chamber music, opera and Broadway show tunes performed by four vocalists and a pianist.

Johnson, baritone, has performed with Opera Western Reserve and other opera companies, singing leading roles in such productions as “The Barber of Seville” and “Falstaff.” He will be joined by Lara Troyer, lyric coloratura soprano; Denise Milner Howell, mezzo-soprano; Timothy Culver, tenor; and Judith Ryder, piano.

Ryder was the founding director of Cleveland Opera’s education and outreach program.

The setlist will include music by Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Claude-Michel Schonberg, Jerome Kern and Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II.

The concert starts at 5 p.m. Sunday at Christ Church Episcopal, 21 Aurora St., Hudson. A meet-the-artist reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $20 with students admitted for free and are available in advance at www.mftwr.org or at the door the day of the show.
