YSU Wind Ensemble plays free outdoor concert
The Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble will play a free concert on Wednesday to open the 2018-19 school year.
Stephen L. Gage, director of bands and orchestra at Dana School of Music, and graduate assistant Ryan Dutton will conduct the pops concert, which will include Ryan Nowlin’s “Fanfare on Star-Spangled Banner,” a medley of songs from George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess,” “Variations on Scarborough Fair,” “Shenandoah Setting,” “The Incredibles” and “Danzas Cubanas.”
The program is scheduled at 7 p.m. at the Harrison Common Field on Walnut Street.
According to Gage, “Harrison Common is an outstanding venue for this music and the YSU Wind Ensemble is enthusiastically looking forward to performing a pops concert under the open sky in our first concert of the semester.”
Patrons are invited to bring a lawn chair and snacks to enjoy at the concert, which is free. No alcohol is permitted.
The program will move to Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater in the event of rain. Call 330-941-2307 for information.
