WaterFire Sharon returns

First of three events set Saturday

SHARON, Pa. — WaterFire Sharon returns Saturday for the first of three events in 2018.

This is the sixth season for the art and music festival, where the centerpiece is the lighting of more than 50 blazing bonfires on the Shenango River at dusk.

“Magical Moments” is the theme for the first event of the season. It will feature more than 65 artisans and non-profit organizations in downtown Sharon, Pa., who will be selling and showcasing their specialties, including fine arts, crafts and jewelry. Food vendors will be on site and downtown restaurants also will be open.

Walking tours will be led by the Sharon Historical Society at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Those interested should meet at the Community Library of the Shenango Valley 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start. Other attractions include an expanded children’s fun zone located near Reyer’s Shoe Store with games, crafts and physical fitness activities.

Entertainment on the East Stage will feature 2nd Avenue Project at 3 p.m., The Vindys at 6 p.m. and Rudy and the Professionals at 9:45 p.m. Bridge Stage performers include the Boardman Jazz Ensemble at 3:30 p.m. and the Spotted Owl Swing Band at 6:15 p.m.

WaterFire Sharon runs from 2 to 11 p.m. in the downtown area with the lighting ceremony at dusk. Admission is free.

Additional WaterFire events are planned Aug. 18 and Sept. 22.
