Test your knowledge

of visiting classic rockers

Classic rock fans have a couple of choices in the coming week to satisfy their cravings for vintage hits.

Pat Benatar and her husband, Neil Giraldo, will perform Saturday at Packard Music Hall in Warren. The show is billed as “An Acoustic Evening with …” and Benatar and Giraldo will play stripped-down versions of her ’80s hits and share some of the stories behind then.

On Tuesday, John Fogerty and ZZ Top are teaming up for what is billed as the Blues and Bayous tour, which plays the Covelli Centre in Youngstown on Tuesday. Each act will play a full set, and on many dates so far, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons has been making a guest appearance on a song or two during Fogerty’s set, including a new song called “Holy Grail.”

Fogerty told Billboard magazine about the inspiration for the song last month.

“It just occurred to me that standing on a stage somewhere playing guitar with Billy Gibbons, that’s gonna be the Holy Grail,” he said.

To get ready for this musical doubleheader, here is a quiz to test your knowledge of the acts. The answers for the first section could be Benatar, Giraldo, Fogerty, ZZ Top or any of its members.

1. Which one has called Leavittsburg native Jerry Douglas their favorite musician?

4. Which one has played at Yankee Lake?

Benatar / Giraldo

11. Before she became a rock star, Benatar had a role in a 1975 off-Broadway musical called “The Zinger,” written by a singer-songwriter and activist who had a few hits in the 1970s. Who was the songwriter?

13. “Invincible” was the theme song for what 1985 movie?

14. What is the title of Benatar’s memoir / autobiography?

25. Giraldo produced the debut solo album for what ’70s rock band frontman?

Fogerty

16. Who was Fogerty’s backup band on the 2004 Vote for Change tour?

17. “Proud Mary” was written by Fogerty and released in 1969 by Creedence Clearwater Revival, but Ike & Tina Turner also had a hit with it the following year. Which version charted higher on the Billboard Hot 100?

18. What song led to John Fogerty being sued by former label boss, Saul Zaentz, who essentially accused the musician of plagerizing himself?

19. “Almost Saturday Night” from his 1975 self-title album didn’t have much chart success for Fogerty, but who had a top 20 mainstream rock hit with the song in 1981?

20. Fogerty has received just about every honor a musician can get, but he also has one of his guitars enshrined in what non-musical hall of fame?

ZZ Top

21. What was the name of Gibbons’ pre-ZZ Top band?

22. ZZ Top has had the same lineup for nearly 50 years, but three other musicians had short stints in the early days of the band. Name any of them.

23. Which music video introduced the “Eliminator” car, the ZZ Top keychain and the ZZ women, recurring characters in several of the band’s videos?

24. What kind of car is on the cover of the “Eliminator” album and featured in the band’s music videos?

25. ZZ Top won best group video at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards for what song?

Scoring

0-7 correct — I heard it through the grapevine that you should avoid rock trivia quizzes.

8-14 — Unlike Pat Benatar, you’re not quite “Invincible.”

15-21 — ZZ Top would say you’ve got “Legs” … and skills.

22+ — You should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Trivia Hall of Fame.
