Accordion festival returns to Sharon

The National Button Accordion Festival returns to Sharon, Pa., this weekend.

The 12th annual event is billed as the largest button accordion festival in the country, and players come from all over the United States to perform. Many music genres will be showcased, including polkas, waltzes, country, boogie woogie, Texas two-step, jitterbug, fox-trot and Latin beats.

Music and dancing will be featured from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday.

An all-day dance and jam session will take place inside the Maennerchor Club and on the grounds from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday.

The final day of the festival on Sunday will feature a formal concert at 12:30 p.m., followed by dancing and jamming until 9 p.m.

Vendors will be selling a variety of accordion-related items, and ethnic foods and German beers will be available.

All events take place at the Apollo Maennerchor, 291 S. Dock St., Sharon. Admission is $8 on Friday and $10 on Saturday and Sunday or $25 for a weekend pass. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.
