Tony winner leads 2018-19 Broadway series in Cleveland
“Dear Evan Hansen,” Tony Award winner for best new musical in 2017, is coming to Cleveland as part of the 2018-19 KeyBank Broadway Series.
The upcoming season was announced Tuesday at the Connor Palace.
The opening show already had been announced. The national tour of the current Broadway revival of “Hello, Dolly!” will launch in Cleveland with a three-week run from Oct. 2 to 21. Betty Buckley will play the role of Dolly Levi.
Other shows in the 2018-19 season include:
l “Les Miserables” — One of the longest-running musicals in Broadway history, a new tour based of the 2014-16 Broadway revival will play from Oct. 30 to Nov. 18.
l “Miss Saigon” — Another revival of a long-running Broadway hit, this musical set in the last days of the Vietnam War will be staged from Jan. 29 to Feb. 17, 2019.
l “School of Rock” — Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music for this musical based on the 2003 film of the same name. It’s in its third year on Broadway, and tour will play Cleveland from March 5 to 24, 2019.
l “A Bronx Tale” — This music is based on the 1993 coming-of-age film written by Chazz Palminteri and features music by Alan Menken (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin”). It runs April 23 to May 12, 2019.
l “Dear Evan Hansen” — The winner of six Tony Awards and the Grammy for best musical theater album will play June 11 to 30, 2019.
l “Come From Away” — This original musical is inspired by the story of 7,000 airline passengers who were stranded in a small town in Newfoundland following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It won the Drama Desk Award for best new musical and was nominated for seven 2017 Tony Awards. It will play July 9 to 29, 2019.
