Top Hat serves up ‘Mangia’

Top Hat Productions will debut the comedy “Mangia” for a three-weekend run.

“Mangia” is the latest production by local playwright Brian Palumbo, who also is the chef-owner of Selah Restaurant in Struthers.

The comedy deals with a 20-year rivalry between Irma and Camilla, which started when Camilla brought her own sauce and meatballs to the rehearsal dinner when their children married each other. The couple now is ready to celebrate its 20th wedding anniversary. Although a simple menu is agreed upon, food and temperaments gain momentum as the evening progresses.

Emma Wason directs a cast that includes Kim Akins, Guiseppe “Joe” Borzachiello, Greg Endsley, Aundrea Heschmeyer, Angela Housteau, Monica Moore, Liz Samuel, Mark Samuel, Chris Scott, Denise Sculli, Anthony Villa and Denny Villa.

The evening also includes a traditional four-course Italian dinner. According to Palumbo, “‘Mangia’ is a dinner theater experience that promises to keep the food and laughs in abundance. Even if you’re not Italian, you’ll leave wishing you were.”

It will be staged at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Feb. 23 and 24 and March 1 to 3 at the Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown Poland Road, Youngstown. Tickets are $27.50 for adults and $25.50 for senior citizens and are available online at www.brownpapertickets.com and by calling 800-838-3006.
