Rust Belt brings back ‘Dating Sucks’

Rust Belt Theater Company’s “Dating Sucks: The Musical” returns Friday for a three-weekend run.

The revue, written and directed by Robert Dennick Joki with orchestrations by Josh Taylor, explores the peaks and pitfalls of modern dating, with cringeworthy, real-life dating stories and original songs.

Returning songs include “High School Vampire Boyfriend,” “The Most Honest Love Song That You’ll Ever Hear,” “Friend Zone,” “Ay Caramba,” “Monogamy is for Ugly People,” “Bars and Legs” and “She Likes Cats.”

The show also features dialogue taken directly from online dating profiles and mobile dating app conversations, and it is updated annually to reflect the current dating climate.

The cast includes Nicole Zayas, Kage Coven, Josh Fleming, Rachel Clifford, Janelle Yohman, Lisa Torrence, Alicia Royer, Madi Pomeroy, Wesley Miller, Tricia Terlesky, Celena Coven, Jessica Patoray, and Joki.

It is billed as a raunchy multimedia musical that leaves little to the imagination.

“Dating Sucks: The Musical” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Feb. 24 at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
