Week of ‘Living Dead’ plays at Calvin Center

In the world of horror, it’s tough to keep the dead down.

The same is true in the world of musical theater at Rust Belt Theater Company. Its “Living Dead: The Musical” returns Friday to the Calvin Center.

Written by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, “Living Dead” is a send-up of George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” and other classic horror films. It follows the story of a group of strangers who board themselves up in an abandoned farmhouse in order to escape the zombie apocalypse. Personalities clash and tensions rise as the undead hoard falls upon the house for an evening of music, parody and dancing.

The show is returning, but it has been reworked to include an updated script, new cast members and new costumes.

Joki directs a cast that includes Nicole Zayas, Ryan Musgrove, David Cirelli, Lynn Sabeh, Nic Wix, Heather Powell, Kage Jonas Coven, Jim Hain, Celena Pollock Coven, Lisa Torrence, Alivia Dawn, Keith Ian, Marisa Zamary, Josh Fleming, Angelisa Beltran, Jessica Patoray, Lisa Torrence, Mac Pomeroy and Maddie Pomeroy.

“Living Dead: The Musical” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Oct. 28 with an additional performance at midnight Oct. 28 at the Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. For reservations or more information, call 330-507-2358.
