Guests join Packard Band for outdoor concert

Two guest soloists and a guest conductor will join the W.D. Packard Concert Band for its next outdoor performance.

Returning as guest conductor will be Jesse Leyva, an associate professor of music at Kent State University and conductor of the KSU Wind Ensemble. He previously served in the U.S. Air Force Band program as commander / conductor of the 561st Air Force Band.

Brett Edward Miller will be the French horn soloist on Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust.”

He serves as a principal horn with the U.S. Air Force Concert Band and has been a member of the band since 2003. The 1999 Youngstown State University graduate also has post-graduate degrees from the University of Maryland and Indiana University, and in 2009 he released the CD “The Underside of Orange,” which features eight original compositions.

Soprano Bronte Lucci is a recent graduate of Kent State University, receiving a bachelor of music in vocal performance. She performed in numerous opera and musical theater productions at Kent State and sang in the chorus for Cleveland Opera Theater’s production of “La Boheme.”

The concert starts at 7 p.m. Sunday at the south lawn band shell of Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Admission is free, and funding is provided by the W.D. Packard trust.
