Riverfest returns to B&O Station

Tribune Chronicle

The Sixth Friends of the Mahoning River Riverfest will be held Saturday at Youngstown B&O Station along the banks of the Mahoning River.

The festival started in 2012 as a celebration of the waterway and to educate the public about the river, its ecology and the environment.

Free canoe and kayak rides on the river will be available, provided by Trumbull Canoe Trails.

Entertainment will include music by the Jim Frank Trio at 12:30 p.m., Jungle Terry and his animal friends at 1:30 p.m. and students from Ballet Western Reserve at 3 p.m., followed by Leather and Lace.

Riverfest runs from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at B&O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown. Admission is free, and funding is provided by Raymond John Wean Foundation’s Neighborhood SUCCESS Grant, Vallourec Steel, the city of Youngstown, the B&O Station and donations from local companies and individuals.

Coinciding with Riverfest is the Artists of the Rust Belt’s Summer Market from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at B&O Station.

Local artists will be selling ceramics, jewelry, photography, Youngstown related artworks and other items. Food vendors also will be on site.
