Mall gallery features Canfield student
The first of two exhibitions by a Canfield teenager opens Friday at the Eastwood Mall’s Art Outreach Gallery.
“Overcome” features photography by Gabby Scianna, a senior at Canfield High School. In her artist statement, Scianna writes that she asked the students she photographed to say what they have had to overcome. She then had them write the answer to the question in her sketchbook and hold their answers in their photographs.
“Not only will the viewer be intrigued by the photograph but also by the students’ answers,” she wrote.
Scianna plans to continue studying photography at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla., with a goal of specializing in fashion photography, traveling the world and owning her own photography business.
“Overcome,” which runs through Nov. 6, is a preview exhibition for her complete show, “Beautiful Minds,” which will be on display Nov. 11 to 27. An opening reception is planned 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 11.
The gallery, located in the JCPenney concourse of the mall is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
